Bio

Monika Petrillo grew up in Munich, Germany, where being a child actor caused her to fall in love with filmmaking at an early age. Working alongside directors such as Robert Rodriguez, Richard Linklater, and Mike Judge as a script supervisor in the film industry  she's contributed to over 75 movies and TV shows.

She wrote, directed and produced the documentary film Flyabout which premiered at the SXSW Film Festival.  The film aired on Halogen TV and sold thousands of copies worldwide before landing on Amazon Prime where it continues to inspire people.

Monika most recently wrote, directed and edited the short film Wink which has won several awards, including the AUDIENCE AWARD (Dances With Films Festival), MOST INNOVATIVE SHORT (Hollywood Film Festival), BEST COMEDY SHORT (Cindependent Film Festival), and BEST ROMANCE at Marina del Rey. OFFICIAL SELECTIONS include Cleveland International Film Festival, Austin Film Festival, Bogotá Short Film Festival, Omaha Film Festival, Richmond Film Festival and Beloit Film Festival.

Her personal and professional travels have taken Monika all over Europe, as well as to far-flung destinations like New Zealand, Namibia, Japan, Colombia and Vietnam. A life-long adventurer, Monika earned her pilot’s license at age 24 and soon thereafter set out to fulfill a dream of flying around Australia. 

Monika lives in South Pasadena, CA, with her husband and two children.
